I took a week off of the gram but I’m back because, well, instagram just dropped another “game changer” that they’ve named “IGTV”.
Instagram’s brand new video platform, is here! No, it’s not going to replace instagram stories or Instagram “live” (for now).
IGTV is a place for vertical (I always tell you guys how vertical is always better than horizontal videos), long form videos on Instagram, and it’s available in both the native Instagram app and the new standalone IGTV app. (Yes it has a separate app)
Here are *10 things* you need to know about IGTV so you can feel less anxious about the update.
What is IGTV?
First the video has to be between 15 seconds and 1 hour Long in order to be uploaded. And the posts will live on your IGTV Chantelle until you delete them. They don’t have a 24hr expiration unlike “Instagram story”.
IGTV is basically a new competitor to Youtube. Curated by none other than instagram. People spend more time staring at their phones than they do staring and their computer or television screens. This isn’t debatable lol. So instagram is moving with its users to provide an updated (mobile) TV experience.
•Although you can have only one IGTV channel per Instagram account; Anyone on Instagram can create their own IGTV channel, where they can share long-form videos (up to 10 minutes for most accounts and 1 hour for larger accounts) with their followers. but Instagram has said stated eventually there will be no time limit. Can you imagine? Better get unlimited data on your phones or throw the whole app away!
•You can watch IGTV videos in the Instagram app, in the standalone IGTV app, or by clicking the IGTV button on someone’s Instagram profile. When someone you follow posts a new video to IGTV, you’ll get a notification in the native Instagram app.https://everythingnaart.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/img_6304.mov
•Instagram curates videos for you based on your interests and who you follow, and you can also watch trending videos on the “popular” channel! And just like you can with Instagram Stories, you can also share IGTV videos to your friends through Instagram Direct.
Here’s the first video I shared:
•THERE ARE NO ADS (yet)
Here’s a quote from one of the co-founders of instagram regards ads: “Right now we’re focused on building engagement,” Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said in a press conference after the launch. “But that’s obviously a very reasonable place to end up. There will be a way for creators to make a living.”
•Viewers of your IGTV Channel now have to option to comment and like in a (visible way) unlike the insta story where a comment would become a reply into your DM.
•it’s meant for vertical videos only for the best user experience; (but obviously there are ways around this)
• IGTV is not going to allow you to watch your favorite TV show (for now) never say never. Lol. But it’s meant to attract your favorite YouTubers and or content creators to stay on instagram.
“The idea is to let these creators, who have a knack for this style of content and who already have sizeable Instagram audiences, set the norms for what IGTV is about.” – Instagram.
Guys! This is great for your business because the IGTV post doesn’t have to be perfectly curated. You can just have fun with it. I’m sure as time passes there will be more amazing features for IGTV as they did for insta story.
• IGTV will probably make you more addicted to the gram. Sigh.
Even though you won’t be seeing your favorite TV shows on IGTV, Instagram is trying to make the overall experience a lot like traditional TV.
•The links you put in your description will be totally clickable! Which is majorly awesome!
• Make sure have fun with it. As for business owners, entrepreneurs and creatives; you now have four unique ways to interact with your audience and also grow and monetize your following. Your feed, your insta live, your insta story and now your IGTV Channel. Make sure all are cohesive but unique in their own way!
For IG TV, you don’t have to have 10K followers to use the “swipe Up” feature. So this is another advantage. Just simply go to your insta story. Add whatever image or video you want. Tap on the link icon. It will give you the option to add a link automatically to your IGTV POST. Viola.
